Dr. Sánchez-Plata, originally from Esmeraldas, Ecuador; It has been linked to food processing, safety and quality since 1995. It has developed a series of capacity-building initiatives in more than 20 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, focusing on technical support to official and regulatory bodies, to the food industry. the food, the consumers and the academy. He is a Pharmaceutical Biochemist with Food Option from the Faculty of Chemical Sciences of the Central University of Ecuador and completed his postgraduate degrees that include a PhD (Ph.D) in Food Science and Technology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a Master’s Degree in Management Companies (MBA) with an emphasis in Agribusiness, and a Master’s degree (MS) in Food Science and Technology from the same institution.
He has participated in countless scientific conferences in the US, Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe. In addition, he has served as a consultant to food processing companies in the region. Prior to joining Texas Tech, Dr. Sánchez-Plata served as the Hemispheric Specialist in Food Safety in the Office of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in Washington and Miami from 2009 to 2014, and was Associate Associate Professor in the School of Food Science and Technology of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Previously, Dr. Sánchez-Plata worked as Professor of the Faculty of Poultry Science and the Postgraduate Program in Food Science and Technology at Texas A & M University from 2004 to 2008.
